Everett G. Burkhalter

Everett Glen Burkhalter ( born January 19, 1897 in Heber Springs, Cleburne County, Arkansas, † May 24 1975 in Duarte, California ) was an American politician. Between 1963 and 1965 he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Everett Burkhalter attended the public schools in Arkansas, Indiana, Colorado and California. He then worked as an electrician and lighting for the film industry. In the final stages of the First World War he served in the years 1918 and 1919 in the U.S. Navy, the Reserve he served until 1921. Politically, Burkhalter joined the Democratic Party. Between 1942 and 1952 he was a member of the California State Assembly. He was also a board member of the California Section of the American Legion veterans organization. From 1952 to 1962 he sat in the Los Angeles City Council.

In the congressional elections of 1962 Burkhalter in the 27th electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC was chosen, where he became the successor of Harry R. Sheppard on January 3, 1963. Since he resigned in 1964 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1965. During this time, the Vietnam War began. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives to Everett Burkhalter withdrew into retirement, which he spent in North Hollywood. He died on May 24, 1975 in Duarte, and was buried in Los Angeles.
