Evgeni Koroliov

Evgeni Koroliov ( born October 1, 1949 in Moscow ) is a Russian pianist.

Life

First piano lessons received Evgeni Koroliov at the Moscow Central Music School by Anna Artobolewskaya. Later he was also informed by Heinrich Neuhaus and Maria Yudina, before his studies with Lev Oborin and Lev Naumov at the State Conservatory " P. I. Tchaikovsky " continued in Moscow. At international competitions, he won numerous awards. In 1978 he was appointed professor at the Musikhochschule Hamburg and taught there ever since as a professor. He now lives with his wife Ljupka Hadzigeorgieva, with whom he has periods of study a duo ( "Duo Koroliov " ) plays in Hamburg.

Repertoire

Especially is connected Koroliov the work of Bach - he played the age of seventeen, the Well-Tempered Clavier in Moscow. Even with cyclic performances of Bach's keyboard works Koroliov drew attention to himself. His Bach recordings were praised - György Ligeti about especially admired Koroliov recording The Art of Fugue and said about it:

" ... But if I am to be allowed only one musical work on my desert Iceland, then I shoulderstand choose Koroliov 's Bach Because, forsaken, starving and dying of thirst, I would listen to it right up to my last breath. "

" ... But if I were allowed to take only one working on a deserted island, so I choose Bach Koroliov, because this recording I would, lonely, starving and dying of thirst heard, to my last breath. "

His repertoire includes further addition to the Viennese classics as well as works of, inter alia, by Franz Schubert, Frederic Chopin, Claude Debussy to Olivier Messiaen and György Ligeti.
