Evilard

Evilard ( German Leubringen ) is a municipality in the administrative district of Biel / Bienne Canton of Berne in Switzerland. The majority of German -speaking village in Magglingen (French Macolin ) also belongs to the municipality.

Geography

Evilard is located on 697 m above sea level. M., 1 km north of the district capital Biel (air line). The village is located in a clearing island on the southeast slope of the Jura, around 300 meters above the city of Biel. Economy

Evilard was marked by the beginning of the 20th century mainly by agriculture. History

The first written mention of Leubringen took place in 1300 under the name Lömeringen. The first French naming of 1434 was Eweller. Both the German and the French name is probably an Old High German personal name based on the former, is the case with the suffix -ingen ( ' among the people of ... '), linked in the latter case with Latin villare ( ' homestead ').

Several monasteries and the Prince-Bishop of Basel had in the Middle Ages land in the municipality. Judicially and militarily, however, the town was under the city of Biel. From 1798 to 1815 Evilard belonged to France and was initially part of the Département du Mont Terrible, which was connected to the 1800 Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna, the place came in 1815 to the Canton of Bern. For now Evilard was assigned to the chief official for IC- 1832 it came to the district of Biel.
