Évosges

Évosges is a commune in the French department of Ain, in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Évosges is located at 740m above sea level. M., about eleven kilometers east of the city Ambérieu -en- Bugey (air line). The small village extends in the central Bugey, in a valley on the western edge of the Plateau d' Hauteville in the High Jura, high above the deep valley of the Albarine, which together with the cluse des Hôpitaux as Taldurchbruch the transport connection for railway and road between Ambérieu- en- Bugey and Culoz guaranteed.

The area of ​​12.08 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the southern French Jura. The area is almost exclusively on the Jura plateau. History

Since the 12th century Évosges had a church that was from Saint -Rambert monastery dependent. In the Middle Ages, the village was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Savoy. The Treaty of Lyon in 1601 it passed to France.

Attractions

The village church of Évosges originally dates from the 12th century. The Romanesque building has been restored and remodeled in the 17th century.

Population

With 143 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Évosges is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Ain. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1896 or 406 persons were counted ), remained the population since the early 1970s to nearly constant level.

Economy and infrastructure

Évosges was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The main access is from Saint -Rambert -en- Bugey at the Department of Road D1504 through the valley of Albarine. Further road links exist with Tenay and Aranc.
