Evripidis Stylianidis

Evripidis Stylianidis (Greek Ευριπίδης Στυλιανίδης, born April 8, 1966 in Maroneia in Komotini ) is a Greek politician of the New Democracy party. He was Minister of Education and Minister of Transport and Communications in the Cabinets of Kostas Karamanlis. Since June 21, 2012 he is Minister of the Interior in the cabinet of Prime Minister Andonis Samaras.

Biography

Stylianidis studied law from 1984 to 1989 at the Democritus University of Thrace in Komotini and from 1991 to 1994 at the University of Hamburg; he received his doctorate in constitutional law. In addition to studying in Hamburg, he worked at the local Greek Consulate General.

After his military service in 1994/95 he was adviser to the party leader of the conservative New Democracy party in matters of youth and cultural relations. 1997 to 1998 he taught public law at the Law Faculty of the University of Athens. 1997-2000 Stylianidis worked as a scientist at the European Public Law Center ( EPLC ).

Political career

Stylianidis was nominated in 1994 as the candidate of the New Democracy for the European Parliament.

In 1996, he ran for the Greek Parliament, but was able to win his party in his constituency in the Rhodopes no seat. In 2000 he was elected deputy and re-elected in 2004.

He was a member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and Vice- President of the Parliamentary Group Greece - Brazil - Germany and Greece.

Ministerial post

On 19 September 2007, Evripidis Stylianidis education minister in the government of Kostas Karamanlis. After a cabinet reshuffle, he was transport and communications minister in January 2009. This office he held until the election defeat of his party in October 2009.

On June 21, 2012 Stylianidis was appointed as interior minister in the government of Andonis Samaras.
