Evžen Rošický

Evžen Rosicky ( / ɛvʒɛn rɔʃɪʦki ː /, * October 15 or October 18, 1914 in Olomouc, † June 25, 1942 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak athlete, sports journalist and resistance fighter against National Socialism.

Life

Rosicky graduated in law at the Charles University in Prague. He was a member from 1931 to 1941 at the SK Slavia Prague and was in Berlin in 1936 a member of the Czechoslovak Olympic Team.

About 400 m hurdles he set in 1939 with a time of 56.9 s a Czechoslovak record. In 1935, he had become with 1:54,6 min and record holder of the Czechoslovak Republic on the 800 - m distance.

From 1935 Rosicky worked as a sports journalist, inter alia, in Rudé Pravo and Haló noviny, the same year he was also joined the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia.

After the German occupation of the country Rosicky was, together with his father Jaroslav Rosicky in the anti- fascist resistance group Nemo. After the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, the illegal group was uncovered by the Gestapo and Rosicky arrested on June 18, 1942. On June 25 at 18:40 clock, he was executed along with his father and four other people on the firing range Kobylisy.The in Prague. On the Central Cemetery in Olomouc is a grave site, in which, however is not sure whether Rosicky 's corpse is actually there.

Between 1947 and 1989 the international Evžen Rosicky Memorial in Athletics was held in Prague every year. After Evžen Rosicky the stadium Evžena Rošického in Prague is named.
