Ewa Podleś ( born 1952 in Warsaw) is a Polish contralto. Her voice is part of the contralto.

Life

She began her career in 1982 at the Opera in Warsaw. Her voice covers three octaves. Thanks to her coloratura ability and her male -sounding timbre she sang originally written for castrati roles in opera Tancredi by Gioachino Rossini and Rinaldo by George Frideric Handel, Orfeo ed Euridice by Christoph Willibald von Gluck and Semiramide by Gioachino Rossini. Even deep female roles such as Erda in Das Rheingold by Richard Wagner or Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera by Giuseppe Verdi are part of their repertoire. She performed at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, at the Covent Garden Opera London, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, at the Opéra Bastille, Paris and at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
