Ewald Georg von Kleist

Ewald Georg von Kleist ( born June 10, 1700 in Vietzow, Pomerania, † December 11, 1748 in Koszalin, Ewald Jürgen von Kleist ) was a Prussian lawyer and scientist.

Life

Ewald Georg von Kleist studied law in Leipzig and Leyden, was from 1722 to 1747 dean of the cathedral chapter to Pomerania and then President of the Royal manorial court in Koszalin. He was a member of the Academy of Sciences in Berlin.

He belonged to the Pomeranian noble family of the von Kleist, his father was the district administrator Joachim Ewald von Kleist (* 1657, † 1716).

Services

Ewald Georg von Kleist led by scientific experiments. He invented on October 11, 1745 in Pomerania, the electrical amplification bottle. This was again invented shortly afterwards by the Leiden professor of experimental physics, Peter of Musschenbroek. This first electrical capacitor was known partly as Kleistian bottle, but especially after the location of the second invention as a Leyden jar. 1748 found Benjamin Wilson law of accumulation, whereby the capacity of the cylinder is proportional to the covered area and inversely proportional to the wall thickness of the glass.
