EWE Baskets Oldenburg

The EWE Baskets are a basketball team from Oldenburg, which was formed in 2001 from the basketball department of the Oldenburg Gymnastics Federation (OTB ). It is named after the EWE AG, the fifth largest energy company in Germany. In the season 2008/09 National Basketball League, the team of EWE Baskets won the German Cup for the first time.

History

When OTB Basketball is played since 1954, 1964, the men of the OTB master of the then highest league of the DBB, the Oberliga Nord (including teams from West Berlin). 1966 belonged to the OTB to the twenty founding members of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL ), 1971 it came to relegation from the BBL. After that was followed by two top-flight appearances, otherwise the club was in the second division always forefront. In 2000, rose again in the BBL and could be there until today ( 2011/12 ) hold.

The main round of the 2005/2006 season was concluded with the eighth place, after losing nine of the last ten season games in the playoffs left the baskets with 2:3 against ALBA Berlin, where the baskets won both home games in the EWE Arena.

The 2006/2007 season ended, the baskets to ninth and missed the playoffs. In BBL Cup was the quarter-final against Bremerhaven conclusion. On 13 May 2007, the EWE Baskets furloughed their Head Coach Don Beck, who worked for them until then five years, and had basic share in the establishment of the club in the top half of the table. At their first Euro Challenge Participation they came down to the top 16 and beat there twice to eventual winners Virtus Bologna. Having won the German championship for the first time they qualified for the Euro League, the top division in Europe.

The season 2011/2012 could not make as hoped EWE Baskets. Despite a supposedly strong squad, the team could rarely meet expectations. In March 2012, followed by a defeat against the separation of Trier coach Predrag Krunic. With Ralph hero of the former assistant coach of Krunic as his successor until season's end was. For the season 2012/2013 Sebastian Machowski was introduced as the new head coach. He previously worked for the New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig. Name and Logo

The EWE Baskets Oldenburg were originally once the first men's team of Oldenburg Gymnastics Federation. In 2001, the EWE expanded its commitment to the Oldenburg first division, this became the name sponsor and the team was renamed the EWE Baskets Oldenburg. Accordingly, we also changed the team logo. Youth development and cooperation

Youth development takes place under the name of Junior Baskets Oldenburg at the EWE Baskets. There you will find measures such as conveyor camps, national teams and school - AGs, which are contested together with the partners Oldenburg Gymnastics Federation (OTB ) and TSG Westerstede.

In the junior level are the Junior Baskets since 2006 a team in the Junior Basketball League ( NBBL ).

With the 2010/2011 season hit the baskets on a new chapter of youth development with the creation of Baskets Academy Weser-Ems. In planning is already a power center modeled after the Handball Bundesliga TV Großwallstadt. To the long term so that talent is supported in Oldenburg, which can support the Bundesliga team later. The Baskets Academy Weser-Ems includes the teams of NBBL and JBBL as well as the first team of the cooperation partner OTB ( since 2012 Pro B ). The previous Regional team of Bawe succeeded in the 2011/2012 season with a record of 20 wins from 22 games of the sovereign promotion to the Pro B.
