Action

One day dive three ragged figures from the slums of Ostend in the successful writer and formerly active drummer Dries on to hire him as drummer for their hitherto little- successful band project. The initial goal is a one-off gig with a band of disabled musicians exclusively on ( province ) rock competition of Leffinge. These are: Koen de Geyter, the lisping singer whose pastime it is to attack women and beat bloody, to gain gratification Jan Verbeek, bassist with the stiff right arm, the home his father " maintain " must is tied up with a straightjacket on the bed, and the deaf guitarist Ivan Van Dorpe in whose home the listless wife can degenerate the house and her own body and the screaming daughter at most quiets with drugs. Dries agrees, driven by the urge for observation of social misery, gives as his handicap that he could not play the drums, and called the band "The Feminists ". Dries manipulates the world of social misfits, they exploited against each other and eventually he considers himself as Savior and makes for a disaster.

Criticism

" The visually and linguistically dramatic representation of social misery does not see itself as realism, but as a reflection on the representability of hopeless lifestyles, artfully broken both the main character and through stylizations on the picture and sound levels. "

"It hurts to get involved in this film, but the pain is always a healing experience. And that is particularly true of Ex Drummer, which might be one of the most startling and disturbing films of the year for sure. Nevertheless - or perhaps because of it - you can not miss this movie under any circumstances - if you can stand it. "

" Director Koen Mortier wanted a similar scandalous social drama as well as " Trainspotting " design, but has just created a work between delirium, disgust and revulsion, apparently trying to break every taboo. "
