The satellite will be used to route tracking of marine vessels by Automatic Identification System ( AIS). It is a wireless system for the identification and localization of cargo and passenger ships on the high seas. It was developed by Surrey Satellite Technology ( SSTL ) built on the basis of the satellite bus SSTL -100 on behalf of COM DEV Canada. The design life is five years.
