Excenevex

Excenevex is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Excenevex is located on 385 m above sea level. M., 10 km west of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located on the south bank of Lake Geneva, in the Golfe de Coudrée, on the east side of Presqu'ile du Léman, a broad peninsula, which juts far into the lake.

The area of ​​6.66 km ² municipal area includes a section on the south bank of Lake Geneva, the lake shore line is approximately 2.8 km. The municipal area extends from flat lakeside southwestward over a gently rising slope up to the plateau of the Presqu'ile du Léman. Here is the extended Grand Bois Forest. History

The area around Excenevex was inhabited very early. The oldest traces come from a riparian boundary settlement from the Neolithic period. Even during the time Burgundy was a settlement here.

Excenevex was first documented in the 14th century. Formerly called the community Exchenevay. The place name is composed of the components ex ( out of ) and chenevay together, an old French term for the hemp plant (Latin cannabis ).

Attractions

The village church was built in the 19th century. Furthermore ruins of the Château de Rovorée are preserved, and there are three more locks.

Population

With 1032 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Excenevex one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In recent decades, a strong growth of population was recorded. Outside the village near the lake shore there are several second homes.

Economy and infrastructure
