Exchange transfusion

An exchange transfusion is a blood transfusion, in which the whole blood of a patient is replaced with the blood of a donor. It comes in particularly severe cases of neonatal jaundice, especially if this is caused by a rhesus incompatibility, apply. In case of fetal hydrops, it is already carried out usually in the fetus in the womb. Nowadays, however, such problems can be largely avoided through preventive measures in the mother.
