Exfoliation joint

Desquamation ( synonym: ( Dis-) scaling, flaking ) referred to in geology detachment peel-like rock slabs of rock walls.

The peeling is a near-surface grinding, which is mostly due to solar radiation ( insolation ) and large temperature differences. Thus it is often found in dry climates ( arid ). But desquamation are also related to geochemical processes.
