Exobasidiomycetes

Exobasidium vaccinii

The Exobasidiomycetes are a group of smut fungi ( Ustilaginomycotina ). All representatives are parasitic flowering plants.

Features

The Exobasidiomycetes own as well as their sister group, the Ustilaginomycetes, mainly Septalporen with membrane caps. However, there are also types without Septalporen. The Exobasidiomycetes characterized by local interaction zones with their host, whereas they are large with the Ustilaginomycetes.

Ecology

The Exobasidiales and Microstromatales grow on woody plants and do not form teliospores; their basidia arise directly on the leaf tissue of the host. The Georgefischeriales, Entylomatales and Doassaniales form teliospores inside the leaf tissue, the spores are only at the rotting of the leaf -free. The Tilletiales the spores by tearing of the host tissue are free, their biology is largely identical to the fire Fungal ( Ustilaginales ).

System

The Exobasidiomycetes form a monophyletic group probably one of the two classes of the smut fungi. The Exobasidiomycetes itself be divided into several orders:

  • Doassansiales
  • Entylomatales
  • Nacktbasidienartige - Exobasidiales
  • Georgefischeriales
  • Microstromatales
  • Tilletiales
