Explicit knowledge

The term explicit knowledge (explicit = explicit, full) in 1966 in the classification system of Michael Polanyi, in contrast to the concept of tacit knowledge as uniquely coded and therefore by means of signs ( language, writing ) understood clearly communicable knowledge.

Example: Scientific findings are written language usually in a systematic (formal) and communicated through publications. This explicit knowledge can be stored due to the encoded form by any media, processed and transmitted.

In organizations ( eg companies), the aim is to make both the verbalized explicit knowledge as well as the existing in the minds of implicit knowledge available. These are often called knowledge management systems are used.
