Expo.02
The Expo 02 was the 6th Swiss national exhibition and was held from 15 May to 20 October 2002 Three -Lakes Region. The exhibition consisted mainly of five " Arteplage " said exhibition facilities, which were built on the lake shores of the cities of Biel / Bienne, Murten, Neuchâtel and Yverdon- les- Bains exclusively for the duration of the exposure; the fifth Arteplage was a converted gravel barge, " Arte Plage du Jura mobile » called, between the remaining Arteplages wrong. Each Arteplage represented one of the five organizational cantons of Bern, Jura, Fribourg, Neuchâtel and Vaud.
The word " Arteplage " ( from French art Art and plage beach ) was specially invented for the Expo 02. On the Arteplages featured artist in numerous exhibition pavilions of various exhibits, which were based on the relevant theme of Arteplage. Many pavilions sponsored by Swiss companies. Furthermore, there were various artistic performances, sound and light shows as well as various rides.
The Arteplages
AMJ ( Arteplage you mobile Jura)

The AMJ was a converted gravel barge between the various Arteplages wrong. The AMJ was the only Arteplage no constant exhibitions, but led events, which were thematically together as "chapters" by.
Biel
Motto: power and freedom; Canton: Bern
The Arteplage Biel included the Bieler lake basin and the beach as well as a built on stilts in the lake platform whose distinctive concludes with three towers. In the form of a helix, a bridge from the platform over the lake basin swung to the exhibition grounds on the other side.

Murten
Motto: moment and eternity; Canton: Fribourg
The exhibitions in Murten were distributed over a large part of the historic city. Among the most impressive installations included the temporary " Garden of Violence " by Vogt Landscape Architects from Zurich, who presented the issue of global violence in a landscape architectural and artistic installation in an intelligent manner. The Arteplage itself was located on the shore of Lake Murten, the largest building was a walk- monolith of architect Jean Nouvel of 34 meters each side, inside which two panoramic images were seen.

The heart of the Arteplage was completely built on Lake Neuchâtel platform, which received three designated as " pebbles " Galets under which there were most of the pavilions. Other exhibitions were built along the shore.

Landmark Arteplage was a walk- cloud - a 100 meter long and 20 meter high structure built on stilts in the lake of Neuchâtel, with over 30,000 water droplets sprayed from nozzles produced a cloud. The rest of the exhibition area was located on the lakeshore.

Facts about Expo 02
As part of the Expo 02, the infrastructure of the Three Lakes Region experienced some tweaking. So for the duration of the exhibition extra ( during the Expo almost unused ) parking spaces have been provided, one of which went to the part of shuttle buses to the Arteplages. Traffic engineering goal of the Expo, however, was to allow visitors to use the train for arrival propagated; SBB offered for this reason to special half-price subscriptions.
Between the Arteplages perverse six built solely for this purpose speedboats, called Iris catamarans, on the Biel, Neuchâtel and Murten.
For accommodation accommodation of two different types were built. For one module hotels, which consisted of composite containers, and tepee villages.
Although the food was not included in the admission price, there was at all Arteplages numerous restaurants offering a variety of menus.
The mascot of the Expo 02 was called Lili and put a 7- year-old girl dar.

History of Expo 02
1964 harbored the organizers of the 5th Swiss National Exhibition in Lausanne in their final report the desire to have a more national exhibition may coincide with the celebration of the 700th anniversary of Confederation in 1991. But, finally the project CH -91 was rejected because the necessary loans were not awarded.
In 1992 the idea of a new Swiss national exhibition in the Canton of Neuchâtel, which then ran for the organization derselbigen.

On 30 January 1995 approved the Federal Council to particular through the personal efforts of Jean -Pascal Delamuraz, the proposal of a Swiss national exhibition in the Three -Lakes Region for the year 2001.
1996, a feasibility study for the Expo.01 called exhibition was published under the strategic direction of Francis Matthey. They predicted 1.3 billion total cost and around 10 million admissions and accredited by the Federal Council.
On 3 March 1997 Jacqueline Fendt was appointed by the Strategic Committee of the Expo.01 as Director, and later Pipilotti Rist has been brought to the art direction. In the same year, the financial situation of the national exhibition has been improved.

On 14 May 2002, the Expo 02 was officially opened with a nationally televised spectacle that Ticketvorverkäufe far exceeded expectations.
On 1 January 2003 Marc Stucki took over as head of the thesis the overall project. The demolition work was largely completed in 2003. In 2004, Marc Stucki then worked as a liquidator. The decommissioning phase was personally and financially a success.
Criticism
From the Swiss media, celebrities, and a considerable part of the people criticism was exercised at this already before the opening of Expo 02. The main reason was mainly due to the enormous costs that caused the project to the federal government.
