The Droga ekspresowa S5 ( ger. for, expressway S5 ' ) is completed or partly under construction and being planned expressway in Poland. It should extend from the village of Nowe Marzy in the rural community Dragacz near Grudziądz where they branched off from the A1 motorway, Bydgoszcz and Poznan to Wroclaw, where it meets the A8 motorway. In the course of the S5 will pull through three provinces and become part of the European Route 261.

Planning history

In the road construction plans of 1945/46, a compound of Bydgoszcz on Poznan to Wroclaw is provided. Today's A1 should this planning after run over Bydgoszcz and from there the route of S5 should branch off. In the plans of 1963 and 1971, the route is included with slight modifications. Since 1976, the track in the course, as it is now performed included. Since 1985 she is called Droga ekspresowa. From 2001, the route is known as S5.

Special

In Szubin the S5 is expanded only two lanes. Between the motorway junction Poznań- Poznań- Wschód and Zachód the S5 runs on a common line with the A2 motorway and the expressway S11. In Śmigiel the S5 is completed as a single-lane bypass.
