The S6 is between Goleniów - Polnoc and Gdańsk - Południe a part of the European route 28

Planning history

Already before 1945 there were plans in the wake of the Reich Autobahn Berlin- Königsberg, was to connect the cities of Szczecin and Gdansk each other. However, was the route chosen, some sections still to 1942, construction began on the over Stargard (today Stargard ) by the Pomeranian Lake District, Bärwalde ( Barwice ), Buetow ( Bytów ) south of Danzig over to Elbing ( Elbląg ), where they at the already completed highway to Königsberg in what was then East Prussia (now Kaliningrad, Kaliningrad Oblast, Russian Federation) should be followed.

After the motorway network plans of Poland still had a connection Szczecin - Gdańsk provided from the years 1945, 1946 and 1963, which was similar to the plans before 1945, the plan of 1971 contained now one further north on Koszalin ( Koszalin ) running route. Also in 1976 and 1985 this route variant was included in the plans. However, to a realization came not up to the political changes in Poland.

With the associated increase from 1990 of the car population and road freight transport is a need for powerful east- west connections originated. Thus, the network of 1993 saw record an expressway Szczecin - Gdansk -Kaliningrad - Elblag. Also in 1996, this track was included.

2001 then accounted for the route in the planning but was resumed from 2003.

2007, the plans of the originally planned route of the S6 have been changed:

  • It has begun a new 180 km long route alternative to the course Wicimice ( Witzmitz ) - Kolobrzeg ( Kolberg) - Koszalin ( Koszalin ) to investigate. On 9 July 2010, this was officially presented and approved.
  • On 5 December 2007 it was decided to take up the plans for a north western bypass of Szczecin ( Stettin) with a length of about 50 km. This route is currently not a part of the proposed motorway and expressway network of the government a section of the S6.
  • A continuation of the S6 of Gdynia ( Gdynia ) in a westerly direction in planning since 2007. To this end, several route alternatives were examined branching between junctions Gdynia Wielki Kack and Gdańsk - Karczemki of the S6 already existing. The plans provoked considerable resistance from those affected.
