The Droga ekspresowa S61 ( ger. for, expressway S61 ') is a located and planned in the construction of expressway in Poland. You should branch off from the S8 expressway in Ostrow Mazowiecka lead to Lithuanian border and to build on the local A5. The route will pass through three provinces. The S61 is part of the European Route 67, known as the Via Baltica.

Planning history

Since 1993, a route is included in the plans, which corresponds to the current state of planning. In subsequent years, the schedule was continued. In the network planning of 2001, 2003 and 2004, the route is no longer available. In October 2009, it was decided to include the planning of the S61 again.

Augustow bypass

The first section of the expressway S61 is realized in the framework of Augustow bypass. This includes, in addition to the 12.8 km long section of the S61 from node to node until Raczki Suwałki Południe also a 23.3 km long new national road 8, which will branch before Augustów of the existing national road 8 and will lead to the node Raczki. The first construction project, the construction of the national road 8, will be expanded with a road and two lanes. In contrast, the S61 will be expanded with two lanes with two lanes with the possibility of the annex of another lane. The contract for these two construction projects was signed on 11 March 2011 between the GDDKiA and the construction company Budimex. The construction costs amount to 659 million zloty. Featuring a 42 -month planning and construction was contractually agreed. The building permit was issued on December 10 by the voivode of Podlasie. Construction began in late December, 2012. The Augustow bypass to be completed in September 2014.
