Extensible Binary Meta Language

EBML, the Extensible Binary Meta Language (English for " extensible binary meta-language " ), formerly the Extensible Binary Markup Language, is a generalized file format for each type of data. Target is a binary equivalent to XML. It provides a simple structure provided for storing data in the XML -type identifiers. However, it is not extensible in the same way as XML because the document type definition must be known beforehand.

Originally EBML was developed for the audio / video container format Matroska. There are other formats that can be summarized under the heading of Binary XML.
