Extra (supermarket)

Extra ( own notation: extra) was a retail chain with approximately 250 stores in Germany, which belongs to Rewe since 2009. On 16 March 2009 all Extra stores were reflagged in Rewe markets. Regional focal points of extra- were North Germany, Berlin, North Rhine -Westphalia and Rhineland- Palatinate. Food accounted for about 90 percent of the range. Extra product led programs leading brand manufacturer and finally the Rewe 's own brands such as " yes ," "REWE " and " REWE organic".

Business

Extra stores were to be found in cities and towns from 8,000 inhabitants. The stores were located mainly in North Rhine -Westphalia, Rhineland -Palatinate, Lower Saxony and Berlin were mostly 2000-3000 square meters. History

The first Extra supermarket was opened in 1970 by Schaper group in Düren, also the other main branch network was limited initially to Lower Saxony and North Rhine -Westphalia. The Schaper Group was incorporated in 1987 in the Asko Group, thus since 1996 specially belongs to the Metro Group. In 2004, the food companies Real and Extra were merged, but were still on the market separately.

On 1 July 2008, the Cologne-based retail group Rewe has taken the Extra stores with 9,700 employees of Metro AG, the German Federal Cartel Office approved the purchase on 28 March 2008 without conditions. The name Extra disappeared in the subsequent period as well as the franchise brands Comet and Bolle by re-flagging of markets at Rewe, Toom - consumer market and buying Park (Sales rail of the REWE Dortmund).

The hardware stores were annexed after the sale of the chain to which also belong to the Metro AG DIY chain Praktiker AG, and are often operated as a franchise.

Extra Future Store

Company history counts in April 2003, the opening of the Rheinberger Extra Future Store, Metro Group by Claudia Schiffer, born in Rheinberg. In the Future Store new technologies and selling concepts should be practically tested with real customers. The Extra Future Store was replaced by the Real Future Store in Tönisvorst in May 2008. Today is the Rheinberger Extra Future Store, a Rewe Kaufpark.

Test of self-service checkouts

In addition to traditional service checkouts have been since 2004 in some markets self-service checkouts, so-called self-service checkouts used.
