Extrabreit

Extrabreit from Hagen is one of the most commercially successful New German Wave bands of the 1980s. The name was spontaneously taken a particularly wide pen the company edding.

Band History

Founded in late 1978, the career of Extrabreit in 1980 with the rise of the " New German Wave " began. However, it was not a typical NDW band, but made German rock music with also critical texts. This title is on her rather dark and apocalyptic sounding album, " What a country! - What manner of men! ". This plate was her first major bestseller in October 1981. The third LP " Return of the fantastic five", which also contained a duet with Marianne Rosenberg ( "Duo Infernal " ), was still very good. Jörg A. Your first major setback experienced Extrabreit early 1983. A much heralded and intricately organized tour under the motto " Germany in the coup " was only moderately attended. After the departure of two band members in mid-1983, there were two German - English albums called " Europe " (1983) and "LP of the Week" (1984). In "Europe" was the band for the first time excellent reviews in the trade press. The sale was at about 35,000 copies but far below expectations (for comparison: " What a country - What manner of men! " Then sold 360,000, " their greatest success " 420,000 and " Return of the fantastic five" still 200,000 ).

After a hiatus until 1987, the band announced back with a purely English-language album, which also flopped. In the 1990s, became Extrabreit to a German rock band with socially critical, bitingly ironic and melancholic lyrics, but could not build on the success of the start time. Impressive sales figures were only isolated success stories, such as the best-of compilation " Back from the future" or with the single For me the hell rain red roses, taken together with Hildegard Knef. After their planned as a farewell concert appearance in Copenhagen on September 19, followed in 1998 on 31 August 2002, the first concert after the reunification in Bochum. In 2005, the album was released "peace."

Your 1000th concert played Extrabreit on August 27, 2005 several thousand spectators at Hengsteysee in Hagen.
