Exuperius

Exuperius (French: Exupère, SuperI or Spire; * at the end of the 4th century in Arreau, today the Hautes -Pyrénées; † around 410 in Blagnac, today Haute -Garonne ) was an early Christian Bishop of Toulouse and Saint of the Roman - Catholic Church and contemporary of Jerome of Stridon. As Bishop of Toulouse, he was the successor of Saint Sylvius, who officiated 360-400. His memorial days are September 28 and 14 June.

According to tradition, he directed the construction of a basilica, which was the holy Saturninus, the first bishop of Toulouse, dedicated, and consecrated the previous Roman Temple of Minerva the Virgin Mary (now Basilique Notre- Dame la Daurade ). He is said to have later all church property, and the holy vessels of his church sold, in order to alleviate the suffering of the people, which was ruined by the barbarians invasions.

The the writer Antoine de Saint- Exupéry family bears his name in Occitan.

On his shrine is on the one hand above the crucified Christ between Mary and John the Baptist to see, including the death of Exuperius is shown; on the other side you can see the bishop preaching and below the scene as he held the Vandals at the gates of the city of Toulouse.
