Eyb

Eybquelle

The Eyb is a right tributary of the Fils in the district of Göppingen. Below Treffelhausen springs the Eyb a rocky chasm. The first 50 meters of the stream bed are artificially enlarged and lined. A few meters away from the source is the 18 meter long Eybquellenhöhle, on the opposite side of the valley the 8 meter solid cave. Both the Eybquelle and the two caves are designated natural monuments.

The Eyb first flows southward through the Roggental. In the historic upper rye mill the mill was powered by water over centuries, until 1962, electricity was generated. The source water from the murder holes close up, especially after heavy rain and during the snow melt, the trout ponds lying in front of the mill. At the end of the mill, which is now home to a restaurant, this creek flows into the Eyb.

From the lower rye mill the Eyb flows through the now -called Eybachtal area southwest past in the direction of Geislinger district Eybach and there at the castle. In this section, the valley filling is determined by Süßwasserkalke ( tufa ). In Geislingen the Eyb flows a short distance to the northwest and flows into the Old City in the Fils. Above the Old City leads coming from the south Rohrach in the Eyb. Some historical maps represent the following part to the confluence with the Fils as part of Rohrach.
