Eyewall replacement cycle

Cyclic Eyewall neoplasms (English eyewall replacement cycles ) usually occur in strong tropical cyclones of Category 3 and more on the Saffir -Simpson Hurricane Scale. When tropical cyclones reach this strength and the eyewall contracts or is small enough, it can happen that reinforce some of the outer rain bands and a second ring of strong thunderstorms (ie a second eyewall ) around the center of the storm. These moves slowly towards the center and cut the inner eyewall so vital moisture and especially the angular momentum. Because the strongest winds in a tropical cyclone are the same in the eyewall, this weakens during the cycle. However, when the cycle is complete and the outer eyewall replaces the inner has, the storm may intensify again. With the new, larger eyewall thus obtained, the wind field of the storm is also larger.

The most powerful tropical cyclones pass through at least one such cycle, while the strength of the storm vary widely.
