Eysins

Eysins is a municipality in the district of Nyon in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Eysins is located on 438 m above sea level. M., 2.5 km west of the district town of Nyon (air line). The village is located at the level between the lake and the foot of the Jura, north of the river Boiron de Nyon.

The area of ​​2.4 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the plain at the foot of the Jura west of Nyon. In the southern part of the municipality is the Talniederung of Boiron, which flows into numerous meanders to Lake Geneva. In the far south, the area extends to the edge of the Bois Neuf in the northwest below the resort Les Tourniaux is 471 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Eysins. Population

With 1316 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Eysins one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the residents 82.1 % are French, 6.4 % English speaking and German-speaking 6.1 % (as of 2000). The population of Eysins amounted in 1850 to 234 residents in 1900 to 262 inhabitants. After 1960 (312 inhabitants ) continued a rapid increase in population by tripling the number of inhabitants within 40 years.

Economy

Eysins was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. History

From the Roman period settlement traces of a villa and small remains of an aqueduct are present, who led the water from the Versoix to Colonia Iulia Equestris ( Nyon ). The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1002 under the name Osinco in pago Equestrico. 1140 appeared the name Osins, 1212 Oisins and in the 15th century Oysins. The name probably goes back to the Burgundian personal names Ausingus or Osingus.

In Eysins there was a domain of the kings of Upper Burgundy. The place served in 1002 as a meeting place of King Rudolf III. , Who gave at that time a part of the vineyards of the Abbey Romainmôtier. In the 14th century Eysins got to the Augustinerpriorat in Nyon. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Nyon.
