Eysson

Eysson is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Eysson is located on 653 m above sea level, 9 km north-east of Valdahon and about 30 km east of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on the eastern edge of the plateau of Valdahon, called the first plateau of the Jura, in the headwaters of the Creuse at the foot of the heights of the Bois de la Cote.

The area of ​​6.01 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Eysson, which is on average 650 m. It is predominantly of arable and meadow land, partly also passed by forest. The plateau in the west and the east is limited by two dry valleys and on the north by the valley of the Creuse (inflow of Audeux ), which rises with the Source de la Venoudier. To the southeast the plateau gradually rises. The municipal area extends to the adjacent forest heights which separate the plateau of Valdahon from that of Pierre Fontaine. At the height of Sur le Cerf the highest elevation of Eysson is achieved with 740 m.

Neighboring communities of Eysson are Villers- Chief in the north, and Domprel Grand Fontaine- sur -Creuse in the east, Vercel - Villedieu -le-Camp to the south and Épenouse in the West.

History

In the 12th century Cluniac Priory was founded in Eysson which was under the Monastery of Morteau. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 1998 Eysson is a member of the 44- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierre Fontaine - Vercel.

By January 1, 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Besançon, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Attractions

From the former priory of the 12th century, the Romanesque choir is obtained, which was integrated into the built in the late 18th century church Saint -Georges. The village is characterized by different farmhouses in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 16th to 19th centuries.

Population

With 93 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Eysson is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 176 people were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Eysson was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. The water power of the Creuse was formerly used for the operation of a mill. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Vercel - Villedieu -le- Camp to Landresse. Another road connection with Grand Fontaine- sur- Creuse.
