Eyvind Kang

Eyvind Kang ( b. 1971 in Corvallis (Oregon ) ) is an American composer and multi-instrumentalist (violin, viola, tuba, erhu ) of the Modern Creative.

Life and work

Kang grew up in Canada and the United States. From 1990, he studied in Seattle at the Cornish College of the Arts with Michael White and later took additional lessons from Dr. N. Rajam in Mumbai. By Wayne Horvitz, he met John Zorn know. He worked with such diverse musicians such as anger, Horvitz, François Houle, Bill Frisell, Mike Patton, Sunn 0) ) ), Marc Ribot, Michael Bisio and Beck, whom he accompanied in 2000 on a tour of Japan. With Calvin Weston and Kato Hideki, he founded the trio Dying Ground.

1994 Kang received a grant of the Jack Straw Foundation and was able to resume ( a pun on Serenade ) as the first seven of a series of compositions that he called Nades. The album introduced him to the critics and has been included in various top lists 1996. More Nades are included on the following album Theater of Mineral Nades.

Furthermore, the multi-instrumentalist is across genres on albums by Joe McPhee, Arto Lindsay, Mr. Bungle, Secret Chiefs 3, the Sun City Girls, Animal Collective ( on their album Feels ), Laura Veirs, Robin Holcomb, The Decemberists ( The Crane Wife; 2006), Sunn O ( Monoliths & Dimensions ) and Boris ( altar) to hear. He also worked with Jim Knapp and wrote arrangements for Blonde Redhead.

Kang lives on Vashon Iceland in Washington.
