Eyzahut

Eyzahut is a commune of 135 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Rhône-Alpes region in the Drome region; it belongs to the canton in the arrondissement of Nyons Dieulefit. Residents Eyzahutiennes call themselves.

Geography

The town is located on an average altitude of 500 meters above sea level in the south of the Drôme Provençale, eight kilometers north-west of Dieulefit and 25 kilometers east of Montelimar. Three rivers cut the municipality - the Ruisseau de Salettes, the Ruisseau de Rioussec and the Ruisseau de Ribesaille.

The nearest places to Eyzahut are La Bégude -de- Mazenc and Salettes.

History

The earliest recorded mention as Castrum de Eyzahuco dates back to 1237th The name is actually of Celtic origin ( Aysahûgs ), in 1340 it was used as Aysahuco, 1442 as Esaü certified .. In the Middle Ages Eyzahut was under the Maltese Coming of Le Poet-Laval

The quite inaccessible, situated between steep rock formations village and its surroundings was both at times the Huguenot wars as well as in World War II retreat for the Resistance or the Resistance.
