Ezra C. Carleton

Ezra Child Carleton ( born September 6, 1838 in St. Clair, St. Clair County, Michigan, † July 24, 1911 in Port Huron, Michigan ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1887 he represented the state of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Ezra Carleton attended the public schools of his native land and from then until 1859, the Port Huron High School. He then worked in Port Huron the hardware trade. He also began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party. In the years 1881 and 1882 he was mayor of the city of Port Huron.

In the congressional elections of 1882 he was in the seventh constituency of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Tyler Rich on March 4, 1883. After a re-election in 1884 he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1887 two legislative sessions. After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives Carleton took his previous work on the hardware store again. In 1894 he applied unsuccessfully to return to Congress. He died on 24 July 1911 in Port Huron, where he was also buried.
