F W C-3605

The C- 3605 Manufacturer's Federal Aircraft Factory (F W ) is a 1969 put into service towing aircraft of the Swiss Air Force. Since the initial model, the C-36, has been developed and produced with the Federal Konstruktionswerkstätte in Thun, the öftern is still called the unity of the production facilities of the Swiss Army as a manufacturer.

History

Since 1940, 40 aircraft of the type C- 3603 were used for the towed target service of the Swiss Air Force. Due to the aging of the Hispano -Suiza HS -51 aircraft engines was the beginning of the 1960s a new development for this task required. A weakness of the engines was that they were overused in tow flight operations, which led to difficulties on the cylinder blocks and caused leaks in the cooling system.

Therefore, a specification was created in 1963 for the announced replacement aircraft developed and tested the following aircraft types:

  • Fairey Gannet Mk4
  • North American T -28 Trojan D
  • SFERMA Marquis
  • North American Rockwell OV -10 Bronco A
  • Pilatus Turbo Porter PC-6/B1-HS
  • Short Skyvan
  • Dornier Do 28 Skyservant
  • Mitsubishi MU-2

However, these aircraft either failed to meet the requirements of the specifications, to costly renovations or disproportionate cost.

Subsequently, the Federal Aviation Plant (F W) was commissioned in Emmen, under the direction of the chief engineer Jürg Branger, to replace it. Within a short period the work was able to meet these obligations, and was started in 1969 with the conversion of 23 tow plane of the type C- 3603.
