After numerous single cylinder constructed Taglioni 1963, the four-cylinder Apollo 1260 cc big V engine, which should offer the great Harley -Davidson police motorcycle competition as. They ultimately did not go into mass production, created with their unusual cylinder arrangement but the basis for the development of a two-cylinder V- engine with a lying in the direction of travel and a stationary cylinder, the Taglioni earned a reputation as a brilliant designer and Ducati was typical. This to be found only at Ducati cylinder arrangement made possible by the small frontal area high speeds and yet ensured the reliable air cooling of both cylinders. The optimum for the mass balance cylinder angle of 90 ° minimized the vibrations of the engine.

Taglioni's last went into series production development was in 1977 presented Pantah series, which was characterized by a maintenance poorer and less expensive drive the valve control means of toothed belts instead of vertical shafts. The later further developed engine with two valves per cylinder was fitted to the end of the century.
