Fabro

Fabro is a municipality with 2897 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Terni in the Umbria region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 34 km ². It is located about 40 km southwest of Perugia and about 60 km northwest of Terni. It is part of the joint management Comunità montana Monte Selva di Meana Peglia e.

A special feature is the district Poggiovalle which completely surrounded by the town of Città della Pieve and thus becomes the exclave of Fabro. Other districts include Carnaiola and Fabro Scalo.

The neighboring municipalities are Allerona, Cetona ( SI), Città della Pieve (PG), Ficulle, Montegabbione, Monteleone d' Orvieto and San Casciano dei Bagni (SI).

History

The first human settlements in the village date back to the Romans, in the year 1000, the existing castle extended to control the Chiana valley. In the 15th century the place was by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder, the city walls.

The district Carnaiola also originated around the year 1000 and also an existing castle was built by the Romans expanded, this time to the Ponte del Muro Grosso, a dam on the River Tiber to control. The castle was converted in 1600 from the predominant place in the family of Filippeschi in a purely defensive castle, but already in 1602 took over the Conti di Marsciano the place. In the 19th century the family of Meoni di Buonconvento Buonconvento gained the upper hand in place.

The previously independent municipalities Carnaiola and Fabro 1870 were merged to form the municipality of Fabro.

The district Fabro Scalo emerged in the 1930 's, when the railway line Florence-Rome one stop location received in Fabro, but this had to be located outside the town center.

Attractions

  • Chiesa della Beata Vanna, church in the district of Carnaiola, emerged from the birthplace of the Holy Vanna (1264-1306, canonized on September 11, 1753 by Benedict XIV )
  • Chiesa dei Santi Severo e Salvatore church in the district Carnaiola, originated in the 16th century
  • Parrocchiale Chiesa di San Martino Church from the 19th century in Fabro
  • Palazzo Comunale in Fabro, Town Hall from the 19th century. Was built by Guglielmo Calderini, who later also the Palace of Justice in Rome designed. The town hall suffered considerable damage in World War II and was completely renovated in 1985

Traffic

  • The place has a connection point ( Fabro ) on the A1.
  • The village lies on the railway line Florence-Rome, the breakpoint is called Fabro / Ficulle.

Events

  • Palio dei Somari (English about: The Palio of the donkey), takes place annually on August 15th ( Ferragosto ) in the context of the series Agosto Fabrese instead. Here, the four districts ( Rioni ) to the historical center compete against each other. These are the Rione San Basilio (Green Black Coat colors), Rione Castello ( red-blue coat of arms colors), Rione Fratta ( White Red Coat colors) and the Rione Collonetta ( Black Yellow Coat colors).
