Facheiroa cephaliomelana

Facheiroa cephaliomelana is a flowering plant in the genus Facheiroa from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ).

Description

Facheiroa cephaliomelana grows from the base with branching columnar green to dark green or gray-green stems and reaches heights of growth from 1.5 to 3.8 meters. The shoots have a diameter 4-7 cm. There are 22 to 27 rounded ribs available. The almost circular areolae are covered with yellowish-white wool and hair. The springing from them fine straight spines are yellowish and have a brown tip. The 1-3 central spines are 0.8 to 2.8 inches long by 4 inches, 9 to 13 spines. 0.75 to 1 meter long and 3 inches wide cephalium includes up to 9 ribs and consists of yellow to yellowish brown hairs, which are up to 8 mm long.

The whitish pink to pink flowers are up to 3.5 inches long and have a diameter of 2.8 centimeters. The brownish hairy, purple to dark pink to brownish fruits are up to 1.5 inches long and have a diameter of 2.5 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Facheiroa cephaliomelana is widespread in the Brazilian states of Bahia and Minas Gerais at altitude 550-750 meters. The first description was published in 1975 by Albert Frederik Hendrik Buining and Arnold J. Brederoo ( 1917-1999 ). We distinguish the following sub- types:

  • Facheiroa cephaliomelana subsp. cephaliomelana
  • Facheiroa cephaliomelana subsp. estevesii

Facheiroa cephaliomelana is on the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN as " Vulnerable (VU) ," ie, compromised classified. Prior to the 2010 update, the two subspecies were designated as endangered. Those were not re-evaluated and removed from the red list.
