Geography

The community is geographically one of the smallest in Sweden and extends along the river Kolbäcksån which forms two lakes in the municipality, Stora Aspen and Åmänningen. The municipality is located in the Bergslagen mining district, and in the municipal area there are several abandoned mines and metallurgical plants, including the smelter Engelberg, which is a World Heritage Site. The nearby refinery Engelberg is the oldest surviving facility of its kind in the world. Through the municipal area also lead several trails, one of which Bruksleden is the most famous.

Economy

Fagersta is an outspoken industry community. About 43 % of the workforce are employed in the manufacturing industry, which goes back to a large extent on the 1984 disused steel group Fagersta AB.
