Faid

Faid is a municipality in the district Cochem-Zell, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Cochem.

Geography

Faid is located west of Cochem on the edge of the Eifel.

History

The village is first mentioned in 943 in a deed to the monastery of Stavelot. Under the reign of the Electorate of Trier Faid formed with Cochem a community with common forest ownership. The reign of Trier went out in 1794 with the occupation by the French revolutionary army. 1815 it to the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia, even in the Prussian era, there were clashes of Faid with Cochem to common possession. Since 1946 he is part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

Parish council

The local council in Faid consists of 16 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
