Faistenau
Faistenau is a municipality in the district of Salzburg-Umgebung in Salzburg in Austria with 2942 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

Geography
The municipality is located in Flachgau in Salzburg around 30 kilometers east of the city of Salzburg and is the highest village ( 784 m) in the district of Salzburg-Umgebung. The municipality is part of the Judicial District Thalgau.

The municipality comprises the cadastral Anger, Faistenau, Lidaun, deep Brunaupark and Vordersee.
History
Faistenau is first mentioned historically ( bavarian Foastnau spoken) in a donation of Archbishop Conrad III. In 1182, which gave the place Tiefbrunnau the Church Thalgau.

Municipal council
The municipal council of Faistenau has 19 members and is composed as follows since the local council elections in 2009 together:
Directly elected mayor is Joseph Wörndl (ÖVP ).
Coat of arms
The coat of arms of the municipality is: "In a red shield with a silver chevron, each leg with a black Schrägstückung; under the rafters on a silver ground a natural silver linden tree ".
Religion
Faistenau belonged to the mother parish pastoral Thalgau. 1622 Faistenau was elevated to an independent vicariate. 1873 Faistenau became an independent Catholic parish.
Education
In the community Faistenau there are two kindergartens and a primary and high school.

The place Faistenau offers winter and summer tourism.
Culture and sights
In Faistenau since 1971, every three years the performance of Faistenauer Everyone - The game of dying rich man by Hugo von Hofmannsthal in dialect processing - instead. Since 1963, the game is listed directly below the 1,000 -year-old linden tree. The last performances took place in July 2013.
A worthwhile excursion is to the neighboring huts on the Sausteigalm and the larch cottage on the north side of Twelve horn. It there has a unique view of St. Gilgen and the three lakes: Lake Wolfgang, Mondsee and Krotensee ( Dreiseenblick ). To reach the pastures of Faistenau about the Tiefbrunnau, the last piece on a toll road almost to the huts.
The Felsenbad Faistenau is one of three river pools in Austria, and is located between the village and the lake Hintersee Alm.
The home movie The milkmaid of St. Kathrein (1955 ) and the ORF - crime series Four Women and a Funeral ( first season; 2005 and 2006) were mostly filmed in Faistenau.
Sport and Leisure
Faistenau is one of the municipalities of the Flachgau with tourist focus. In addition to sports such as mountain biking, hiking, swimming, cross-country skiing, canyoning and sledding there is the ski resort Gaißau -Hintersse with several lifts to a height of 1567 m above sea level. A. ( Wieserhörndl ). On Hintersee the club has " Beach Volley Faistenau " built a beach volleyball court.
