Fakhruddin Ahmed

Fakhruddin Ahmed ( Bengali: ফখরুদ্দীন আহমদ, Phakharuddīn Ahamad; born May 1, 1940 in Munshiganj ) is a Bengali economist, bureaucrat and former head of the Central Bank of Bangladesh. After the state of emergency across the country by President Iajuddin Ahmed, he became the chief (Chief Advisor) of the transitional government appointed on 12 January 2007 until 6 January 2009 again Sheikh Hasina Wajed assumed the office of Prime Minister.

Fakhruddin Ahmed studied economics at the University of Dhaka and at Williams College, USA. Subsequently, he completed his doctorate at the prestigious Princeton University.

His professional career start at the University of Dhaka. Then he was administrative officer - first in the civil service of Pakistan, and after the independence of Bangladesh for his new state. From 1978 to 2001 he worked for the World Bank in Washington, where he rose to vice president. He left the World Bank in October 2001 and became chief of the State Bank of Bangladesh ( Bangladesh Bank ). His tenure ended on 30 April 2005. On 1 June 2005 he was appointed Managing Director of Palli Karma - Sahayak Foundation, an umbrella organization for small- Banking in Bangladesh.
