Faleria

Faleria is a municipality in the province of Viterbo in the Italian region Latium, located about 2170 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 45 kilometers north of Rome.

Geography

Faleria lies in the volcanic hills of the southern Tuscia, with its deep valleys, the historic landscape of the Faliscans. It is situated on a rocky promontory above the Molatal.

History

Faleria was called until 1873 Stabia and lies on the ancient Via Flaminia. The renaming is reminiscent of the ancient people of Faliscans, but it has nothing to do with the ancient cities Falerii Veteres (now Civita Castellana) to do or Falerii Novi, which lay to the north.

About 5 kilometers north of the present-day town of Faleria located on the municipal area the remains of the castle Paterno, in January 1002 on the Emperor Otto III. died.

Pierluigi Bianchi (center - left coalition ) was elected in May 2006 to the mayor. The center-left alliance also with 8 of 12 seats, the majority in the City Council.
