Falerone

Falerone ( in the local dialect: fallero or Falero ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 3398 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Fermo in the Marche. The municipality is situated approximately 21 km west-southwest of Fermo, about 21.5 kilometers south of Macerata and about 29 kilometers north-northwest of Ascoli Piceno. Falerone is immediately adjacent to the province of Macerata. South of the village flows the Tenna, in which the Salino ends here.

History

In ancient times, the place Falerio was of some importance. It takes its name from the Latin toponym Mons Falarinus, at the foot of Falerone was founded. It is with him probably a colony founded by Augustus after the battle of Actium for the returning legionnaires.

San Fortunato is said to have worked many miracles in the 15th century in the community.

Since 1969 Falerone is titular.

Community partnership

Falerone maintains together with the neighboring community Montappone a partnership with the French community Cormeilles in the Eure.

Traffic

The railway station on the route Porto San Giorgio - Amandola as this closed in 1956.
