Fall River is a city ( with a status of "City" ) in Bristol County in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. In the census in 2010 had Fall River 88 857 inhabitants, making it the tenth largest city in Massachusetts.

Geography

Fall River is located at 41 ° 42'5 " north latitude and 71 ° 9'20 " west longitude and extending over 99 km ², spread to 80.3 km ² land and 18.7 km ² water surface. The town lies at the mouth of the Taunton River in the Mount Hope Bay, the northeastern part of Narragansett Bay. The southern city limits is also the state border with Rhode Iceland.

Neighboring towns of Fall River are Swansea (8.4 miles north-west ), Somerset (11,6 km to the north ), Freetown (19,8 km northeast), North Westport (9,1 km southwest) and Tiverton in the neighboring state of Rhode Iceland (10, 5 km south-west ).

The nearest large towns are New Bedford ( 22.8 km east-southeast ), Rhode Island's capital city Providence (28,3 km northwest ) and Massachusetts ' capital city Boston ( 87.1 km to the north).

Traffic

Fall River is the most important transport hub in the Mount Hope Bay. Through the city extend Interstate 195, U.S. Highway 6 and the Massachusetts Routes 24, 79 81 and 138 which are partially expanded highway-like. In the south of the city crosses the Massachusetts Route 177 a 100 m wide strip of the city area.

About the Brightman Street Bridge with U.S. Highway 6 and the Charles M. Braga Jr. Memorial Bridge with Interstate 195 Fall River is connected to the opposite north-western shore of the Taunton River.
