The Falschauer in Val d'Ultimo

The Falschauer ( Italian: Valsura ) is a river in South Tyrol, which springs in the rear Val d'Ultimo, and flows into the community Lana in the Adige Valley in the Adige.

It drains the Ultimo Valley over a distance of 41.4 kilometers on a catchment area of 301 km ². Numerous dams hold back the water for five hydroelectric power plants for the production of electrical energy. There is a lowland forest at the river mouth into the Adige. Together with the Burgstaller floodplains represent the last remaining areas that are not affected by the cultivation of the Adige Valley. Numerous protected birds breed in these natural floodplain forests.
