Falun Municipality
Falun (Swedish Falu kommun ) is a municipality in the Swedish province of Dalarna County and Dalarna. The chief town of Falun.
Geography
The town of Falun is located on Lake Runn, which forms the southern boundary of the parish. The municipality extends about 65 kilometers to the north. The area is traversed by glacial moraines that form of hills and wetlands and numerous lakes.
Economy
Traditionally Falun was a mining community. In 1992, the mine of Falun was finally shut down, but the red color Falun red is still produced from the tailings of the mine. Falun is primarily a service center today. The tourism with the main attractions of the World Heritage Site and the Falun mine to Falun, the home of the painter Carl Larsson in Sundborn as well as the ski jumping center Lugnet plays an important role.
Policy
The municipal council (Swedish kommunfullmäktige ) was last elected in 2006 and currently has 45 seats. Falupartiet is only active at the local level.
Attractions
13 km north-east of Falun is the place Sundborn in which the home of the famous painter Carl Larsson is that he has shown in many of his paintings.
