Falx cerebri

The falx cerebri (Latin for " brain sickle ") is a vertically positioned, fastened in the center line on the inside of the skull plate. It is formed by the dura mater ( dura mater encephali ) and separates the two cerebral hemispheres from each other. The superior sagittal sinus runs along the joint with the skull, the inferior sagittal sinus forms the lower edge (see sinuses of dura mater ) of the falx cerebri. Together with the tentorium cerebelli is the brain a sickle Zuggurtungssystem ( tension band = conversion of torque in compression), which mechanically stabilizes the skull cap from the inside.
