Famara Jatta

Famara Jatta L. (* July 16, 1958, † March 17, 2012 in Tunisia) was a minister and central bank director in the West African nation of Gambia.

Career

In 1983, he was to stay in the United States. He earned a degree (MA Regional Planning and Economics) on the Cheney State College in Pennsylvania and in 1992 on the Harvard University ( MA Public Enterprise Policy and Management ).

After a career as an economist, he joined the government service in 1994 and was Minister of Trade, Industry and Commerce ( Secretary of State for Trade, Industry and Employment). On 3 March 1998 Jatta took over the Ministry of Finance and Economics (Finance and Economic Affairs ) and worked in this office until 25 September 2003. Was succeeded in this office Musa Gibril Bala Gaye.

Since then, he served as director of the Central Bank of The Gambia, the Gambian Central Bank operates. In this role, he was praised by the President and confirmed in 2006 for another five years. In July 2007, he resigned and took a job in the representation of the African Development Bank ( ADB) in the Sudan. As reasons for his resignation criticism Jattas to the strong influence of President Yahya Jammeh has become known in the policies of the central bank.

Famara Jatta died on Saturday, March 17, 2012, just days after an operation.
