K. K. FamilyMart (Japanese株式会社 ファミリーマート, Kabushiki - gaisha Famirī Mato, Eng. FamilyMart Co., Ltd.. ) Is a Japanese retail chain.

FamilyMart is Japan's third largest convenience store operator, according to 7-Eleven and Lawson, and the largest chain in South Korea.

History

Family Mart was founded on September 1, 1981. Within a few years the number of stores increased rapidly. In 1986 there were already 1000 supermarkets in Japan. 1988, the first store was opened in Taipei. In 1990 finally opened the first store in Seoul. In the following years, the company expanded greatly. Finally, the first branch was opened in the United States in 2005. The branches in the U.S. going by the name FAMIMA! .

In March 2010, Family Mart took over the am / pm - chain complete with 1107 convenience stores that have been converted for the most part until December 2011 in Family Mart stores but 374 former am / pm stores were closed.
