Fanfreluche

Fanferlüsch ( from the French Fanfreluche = trinkets ) is the name of a wicked fairy from mythology, which is found mainly in literary works from the period of the Enlightenment.

Literary appearance of the figure

Christoph Martin Wieland writes in 1764 in his book " The adventures of Don Sylvio of Rosalva ":

  • " Fanferlüsch is one of the worst and rachgierigsten fairies who have ever been, and their power is not small; ". ( 2 book 4 ch. )
  • " Certainly it is the wicked Fanferlüsch that their ( his aunt, note) has taken shape ... ". ( 2 book 4 ch. )
  • " But the cruel Fanferlüsch you had stolen the language, and she could not bring forth as a sigh ... ". (1st, 10th chapter. ).

Evil Fairies

Up to romance the good fairies ( Esterelle, Maliure or Melusine ) dominated the stories, they were regarded as forever young, beautiful and masterly in the female arts. Good and noble as they were, they used their magic powers to always be a blessing and protected individuals. Later, the first evil fairies appeared, which included mainly Fanferlüsch and Karabossa. They were not only ugly, but were performing evil magic and their power was often greater.
