Fangatau

Fangatau, also called Nakai- Erua, is a small atoll of the Tuamotu Archipelago in French Polynesia. The atoll elongated shape is 8 km long, 3.5 km wide and has a land area of 6 km ². The 11 km ² large lagoon of the atoll has no access to the sea. Administratively Fangatau member of the same community, which also includes the neighboring atoll Fakahina heard.

Fangatau has 121 inhabitants, inhabiting mainly the capital Teana. The airfield on the island was opened in 1978.

The atoll was discovered on July 10, 1820 Baltic German Admiral Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen, who named the atoll " Arakcheev ".
