Fannin County (Georgia)

The Fannin County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Blue Ridge.

Geography

The County is located in northern Georgia, the southern border of Tennessee and borders with its north-eastern tip of North Carolina. It has an area of 1014 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers of water are in Georgia and borders clockwise to the following counties: Union County, Lumpkin County, Gilmer County and Murray County.

History

Fannin County was formed on 21 January 1854 as 106th county in Georgia from parts of Gilmer County and Union County. It was named after Colonel James W. Fannin, who fought with 350 volunteers in the Tex-Mex war for the freedom of Texas.
